Quick Theory of Phase Measure
The laser amplitude is modulated with frequency fm, traveling through a distance D to which the target is located. A tiny part of the light travels back to the sensor with a "phase difference ∆𝝋" by scattering from the target surface. The "phase difference ∆𝝋" is related to D directly by the following equation:
Therefore, the distance D can be calculated by calculating the phase difference by the phase-decomposing circuit and algorithm.
The Miniaturization of Optical Structure
For applications embedded in mobile phones, the Mini Lidar opto-mechanical design team has adopted two main methods to reduce the size of the opto-mechanics: 1. Abandon the traditional light-receiving component packaging and use a genuine COB process. 2. Redesign the light-receiving lens to shorten the focal length of the lens while maintaining the light-receiving ability.
Product Story
The first-generation embedded iPin Ruler module, which was launched in 2018 by Wiseome Inc., is equipped in the CAT phone model S61. It adopted triangular distance measurement technology and has a measurement range of 8 meters, which was the industry's best performance.
The second-generation embedded laser ranging module Mini Lidar, which was launched in the early 2021, adopted iTOF phase ranging technology. The measurement range has been advanced to 20 meters, and the accuracy has been improved to several millimetres, truly realizing the professional ranging capabilities fit even for mobile devices.
